The ancient civilization of Mesopotamia, situated along the Tigris and Euphrates River, practiced unique craftsmanship and created fine jewelry. Both men and women wore heavy jewelry during this Babylonian civilization. Ancient ethnic jewelry like anklets, arm bands, engraved gold seals, chains and necklaces were adorned on the body of both sexes. Gemstones like jasper, agate, lapis-lazuli and many more were embedded into metal and worn.
The basic designs used were trees, cones, fruits, animal- figures, leaves etc. Many idols were also decorated with ethnic jewels. Gem carving was also significant during this period of ancient Mesopotamian civilization.
